The Beginning

The plantation and contracting businesses of TH Group were first started by the Managing Director, Mr. Lei Lin Thai and Director, Mr. Wong Ah Kow. The companies, which the Group acquired, established its presence in Sabah over twenty years ago.

It all began in 1970 when Mr. Lei and Mr. Wong formed a pioneering partnership in Lahad Datu. This cooperation became Sykt Tung Hup Sdn Bhd in 1973 and by 1980, became the main timber contractor for the Sabah Foundation. The company grew rapidly under the prudent management of Mr. Lei and Mr. Wong. In 1985 and 1989 respectively, Tung Hup (Contracting) Sdn Bhd and Tracpower Sdn Bhd were formed to spearhead the timber extraction operations in the Sandakan and Tawau region.

Recognising the importance of having an evenly spread income base, the management ventured into the cultivation of cocoa in the early 1980s and the oil palm industry in 1989. Effective strategizing and planning saw the management diversified into the plantation development of oil palm and a small area for cocoa. The management had also ventured into civil and infrastructure construction in the 1990s to capitalise on the business opportunities in Sabah.
